Infopost: Cal Kestis

Hooo boy, it's been a while since I've done one of these.

Cal Kestis is the protagonist of the Star Wars: Jedi games: Fallen Order and Survivor. He's a Jedi who survived Order 66 at the age of eight - physically survived, at least. Mentally, the jury is still out.

Picture taken moments before disaster. (Also canon weetiny!)

He hid for a while but eventually got caught using the Force to save his friend from becoming a pancake, and managed to escape with the help of certified badass Cere Junda and her friend Greez.

How many times would Cal die without her? Maybe less than I killed him falling off of things in the game.

Cal ends up going on An Adventure with Cere and Greez that helps him fix his relationship to the Force, do some emotional healing, and learn how to be the Jedi he was supposed to be. It's a story about found family and not letting the past define you and fighting for what you believe in even when it's hard.

Oh look, my favorite tropes!

On to Cal himself! He's a 20 year old human male with red hair because Cameron Monaghan does the voice acting and motion capture and they just made Cal look like him. He's coming from two years after Fallen Order, so he's still got some hope in him that hasn't been wrestled away yet.

Aww, look at that smile! There's less of that in the second game.

Cal falls into my favorite character wheelhouse of people who fight the good fight even though it's the worst idea ever and it constantly puts them into danger. He's loyal and good-hearted, and he's used to pretty much everyone he meets trying to kill him, so the bar is going to be really low to get him to be friendly towards you.

If you meet Cal, there's a 99% chance you'll meet BD-1 as well since he's almost always perched on Cal's back.

100% certified Best Boy

BD-1 is an explorer droid and Cal's best friend. He's adorable and friendly and totally harmless unless you try to hurt Cal, in which case he might commit a war crime with zero guilt.

Self-preservation is for other droids!

One other thing about Cal is that he has a Force ability called psychometry, which allows him to touch objects and see their history, along with a memory of whoever interacted with it. It's useful for tracking people and getting information and has some hilarious possibilities around here. This will be an entirely opt-in thing - Cal won't touch anyone else's stuff and sense weird things, unless you're into that.

Random things: Cal loves animals almost as much as he loves BD-1, and there's lots of memes about his love of ponchos because it was the most customizable thing in the first game and we all needed a little humor among the cutscenes of trauma.

It's good when the actor understands their character.

So, if you didn't already check out Cal's profile, yes, this is Katie, aka Zoe and Clint. I haven't been around much outside of admin duties because, well, the past few years have sucked (like, beyond the base level of suck that we're all experiencing on a daily basis). Things are looking up though - apparently a side effect of Lexapro is your brain will let you have passionate feelings about fictional characters again!

I'm sure I left important things out, so let me know if there are any questions!
